Faculty Information
The Early Childhood Mentor Network, part of Early Childhood Networks (ECN), partners with colleges and universities across New Mexico to support early childhood students during field experiences, practicum courses, and the transition into teaching.
Our network includes certified early childhood educators who are prepared to mentor students and early-career professionals. All ECN mentors hold at least an Associate degree and have at least 3 years of experience in early childhood education. Mentoring is available both virtually and in person.
Mentoring Options:
Virtual Mentoring
- Structured collaboration and reflection
- Ideal for students who already have a placement or co-teacher but would benefit from additional guidance and professional support
In-Person Mentoring
- Direct mentoring in a certified mentor’s classroom
- Best for students who need hands-on support during field experiences or practicum hours
Early Childhood Networks (ECN) Mentee Program
Students who apply to become ECN mentees. Accepted mentees receive mentoring support and a stipend.
Stipend Options
- Virtual Mentoring: 15 hours of collaboration, $250 stipend per semester
- In-Person Mentoring: 45 hours in a mentor classroom, 15 collaboration hours, $500 stipend per semester
- Mentees complete three short reports during the semester to help us monitor progress and provide support.
- Students interested in the in-person stipend must complete their hours with an ECN-certified mentor.
More information and the application are available here.
Requesting a Mentor (Without ECN Mentee Program)
Faculty or students may request a mentor at any time, even if the student is not applying for the ECN Mentee Program.
To request a mentor, please email [email protected] with:
- Student name
- Student email
- Language preference
- Type of mentoring requested (virtual or in-person)
- Age group focus (Infant/Toddler or Preschool/Pre-K)
Our team will match the students with an appropriate mentor.
Our Goal
We aim to make mentorship accessible, coordinated, and supportive for both faculty and students while strengthening the early childhood workforce across New Mexico.
If you would like to partner with us or discuss how mentorship can align with your courses or program requirements, we welcome the conversation.
